PAUL CALLE

Paul Calle (1928-2010) was an American artist best known for his meticulous illustrations of space exploration and the American West. As one of NASA's original eight artists, he documented the early space program, including the historic Apollo 11 mission where he was the only artist present during astronaut preparations. His detailed pen and ink drawings and postage stamp designs earned him widespread recognition. Calle also created numerous paintings depicting Native Americans and frontier life. His work is featured in the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian, and he designed over 40 U.S. postage stamps throughout his career.
