"My recent works, composed of gouache on paper, explore to extract my own ever developing definition of 'Americana.' While the attempt to quantify and define 'Americana' is nearly improbable due to it’s constantly shifting cultural landscape, by exploring topics of contemporary and historical American tropes through a lens of subversive semiotics found within subcultures and counter cultures. I therefore hope to enhance and highlight topics of historical and societal turbulence through my attempts in creating these works. My work attempts to function metonymically by associating visually graphic insignias such as text and pop cultural identifiers without elaborating on the relation between them to create scenarios of a personally convoluted American narrative. These identifiers permeate, orbit and utilize topics of race, gender, the authoritative voice, escapism into the American landscape, religious sub-cultural devotion and the attempt to belong as tools to explore self identity."
