Letter of authenticity
"Hepburn's Humanity" is an inspired collection of exclusive work by Los Angeles based artist Free Humanity. Free's work focuses on political situations and notable figures who have had a positive impact on the world. His mission statement reads: “Take back Humanity stolen from our minds by social manipulation and plant seeds of positivity through art and consciousness."
The goal in approaching this project was to explore ways in which House of Roulx could utilize its own library of resources to produce a truly collaborative series of orignal work. Three beautiful previously unpublished portraits of Audrey Hepburn were selected from the Roulx archive. Shot by famed fashion and glamour photographer Milton H. Greene on the set of War and Peace (Paramount, 1956) in Rome, Italy, July 8, 1955, the historic back story only further cemented the scope of the project.
Oversized versions of the images, scanned from the original negatives, were printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta 325 GSM fiber paper serving as canvases for Free Humanity to add his signature multi-layered, multi-colored approach. The result: five beautiful original paintings inspired by Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn's philanthropic efforts throughout her life; the perfect marriage of timeless grace and progressive street style. The actress' image has been a staple in Free Humanity's portfolio, appearing in numerous pieces and works.
The artist expounds, "Audrey Hepburn has been a reoccurring motif in my work, due to the not so commonly known fact that she was a big humanitarian and worked to feed young children in Ethiopia for UNICEF. My goal was to put a little bit of class amongst all the trash in Hollywood and LA. In a world of over sexualized ads I wanted to do a few murals and art pieces to show a classy selfless actress, which seems to be a rarity in today's modern times."
