Dave Van Patten is a Grammy Award winning album artist, illustrator, muralist, and designer from Long Beach CA, best know for his colorful imagery, playful surrealism and humorous tone. With a foundation in comics, Van Patten branched out into large scale mural work with World Wide Walls (POW!WOW!) in 2016 and 2017, allowing his tiny comic drawings to span across entire buildings.
Since then Van Patten has painted murals around the world, working with clients such as Warner Music Group/Rhino Records, Starbucks, Whole Foods, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Quiksilver, Yeti, city programs, local breweries and coffee houses. The bulk of his inspiration is pulled from dark humor comics, 1960's surrealism, psychedelic garage rock/punk albums, and modern societal absurdity.
IN 2022, Dave co-founded CLOUDMACHINE, a collection of 4,444 non-generative NFT’s featuring an imaginative array of original characters mixed with homage characters from nostalgic 80’s movies, retro sci fi comics and horror films.
In 2023 Van Patten won a Grammy Award for “Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package” design for the Grateful Dead box set “In and Out of the Garden: Madison Square Garden ‘81 ‘82 ‘83.” He has done album and poster work for other bands such as WAR, Les Claypool of Primus, The Grateful Dead 2017 Dave’s Picks Series, and various bands on Warner/Rhino, Jagjaguar, ATO, Burger, Lolipop, and Porch Party Records.. His work has been published in Juxtapoz, Vice, NPR, Hollywood Reporter, MEL Magazine, L.A. Weekly, OC Weekly, and L.A. Record Magazine.
