SAM BEE is an oil painter and illustrator from New Zealand. A self taught artist originally specializing in realism he gradually found himself drawn to more visceral, macabre portraits. On first impression, his paintings, (self described as 'meat with feelings') appear to be grotesque characters barely resembling humans. But when viewing his work as a whole, familiar patterns emerge: pleading, sad eyes, anguished expressions and tortured raw emotions.
