"Watershed" is a collection of works with water in many forms – pure and contaminated, contested and crucial, thawing and evaporating – as the binding theme, and with this turning-point moment in ecological history foremost in my mind."
- Josie Morway

Josie Morway is a Boston-based painter whose magical-hyper-realist paintings almost shock the viewer with their technical virtuoso as well as the poignant and compelling imagery contained within. While her work focuses mainly on animals – particularly birds – as subject matter, the hand of the anthropocene lays heavy, speaking about the effects humans have on nature. Her extremely detailed style of oil and enamel painting on wood panels combines the influence of Dutch Masters’ techniques, religious icon paintings, and hyper-modern color and design elements to create paintings that have been described as "votive cave paintings from the distant future."
